Buspirone is the first drug in a group of slow-acting azapirone anxiolytics. Buspirone has been shown to have selective anxiolytic activity. Buspirone relieves stress, has a limited sedative or muscle relaxant effect and does not cause a decrease in mental readiness.

Buspirone is not an anti-psychotic medication and should not be used in place of medication prescribed by your doctor for psychotic disorders.
